Residents not only enjoy the garden, but they take pride in caring for and promoting “their” butterfly garden. Schedule a tour today to see for yourself the joy, the transformation, that a simple butterfly can bring to the residents of Good Samaritan Village in Kissimmee, Florida.
our story
Construction of the Butterfly Garden began in 1999 with a formal dedication in 2001 during the Good Samaritan Founder’s Day celebration. The space is the result of the dream of Susan Kreider and her sister Nancy Olson who together have made the dream a reality. Susan was instrumental in the conception, the opening, and the upkeep of our beautiful world-class garden. Her sister Nancy Olson continued the program with the help of Dick Diener who led the way for the propagation center.
The garden is funded entirely by donations and the butterfly population is maintained by volunteers. Contributions of friends and family members enable us to continue the program making a difference in the lives of residents of all ages and abilities.
Fluttering in the garden
The 2,100 square foot garden is what residents and visitors come to admire. The area was once home to monarchs and queens, swallowtails and zebra fluttering among the zinnias, marigolds and other flowering plants that bloom there for the sole purpose of appealing to the colorful winged insects. With your help we are bringing new life back to our garden. Our garden is undergoing a metamorphosis! We need you!
